The Power of Magick FAQ
If you want to ask a question I’ll soon post an email address where you can submit questions. Answers will be put in the FAQs below every few weeks when the authors send updates.
I have tried to limit this FAQ to questions related to our books, and so not all questions will be answered. I have answered the questions myself but obtained approval from the authors before posting this page.
Chris Wood, The Power of Magick Publishing.
The author FAQs can be found here:
When are you publishing your next book?
I will publish each book when it is ready. I cannot predict a timeline but expect new books from some of the current authors, and some new authors.
Occult writers do not work to deadlines like ordinary authors, being free to work on a book until they are satisfied with its content. There may be times when I publish nothing for over a year, but then you might see one new book every few months.
It has also become clear that modern publishing is extremely competitive and demanding, which means that as a rule of thumb, even when a book is ready, I will wait until the author’s previous book has a large number of positive reviews before publishing the next. To do otherwise is to run the risk of good books being overlooked by the Amazon algorithms.
Every new book will be announced on this site. You can sign up for notifications where it says Follow Blog Via Email, or if you are a WordPress User press the Follow The Power of Magick button.
Do your authors all agree on how and why magick works?
Not at all. I don’t represent a single group of authors, one order, temple or any other organisation. The authors come from varied backgrounds, and their beliefs about magick reflect this. There is a good deal of common ground, and that is covered mostly in this FAQ, but I am a publisher, not the leader of an occult group that all share the same magick. I hope this brings more originality and range to the books that I publish.
What happened to Ben Woodcroft? Isn’t this his website?
Ben Woodcroft did not like the world of publishing and promotion. I set up a small company around the same time that he was trying to find a publisher. We agreed that the easiest way forward was for me to take over this site and to run The Power of Magick Publishing. I intend to publish practical books that I believe will benefit the progress of modern occultism. Ben will continue to write occasionally, and his books will be published through The Power of Magick Publishing.
Will your books cover Enochian Magick, Planetary Magick, Voodoo, Goetia, The Seals of Solomon, Olympic Spirits, Runes, or additional forms of Pathworking?
I will publish many books covering many subjects, but I will let you wait until publication to see what’s being covered. The intention is to publish good books when they become available rather than as many books as possible.
Is there a Facebook study group for The Power of Magick?
Not to my knowledge. If that changes, I will update this answer.
Are there any foundational magick books that everyone should read in addition to The Power of Magick books?
Any reading list becomes extremely long, and you find yourself with hundreds, or thousands, of books that appear to be required reading. Some readers have explicitly asked for books that give the source materials for the Hebrew Magick, and while the authors name books such as Shorshei ha-Shemot, it should be noted that these named books are the tip of the iceberg, and use diverse languages, allusions, as well as a lot of extraneous material. I would not discourage you from researching for yourself, but I know many people find the primary sources to be an obscure disappointment. The Power of Magick Publishing exists so that you have the option to get straight to the practical magick without years of study and research.
If the magick didn’t work, what went wrong?
If magick appears to fail, it can mean the result needs more time to manifest. If there is a complete failure, it may be that you requested a change that was unrealistic in relation to your current life, or that you requested too many changes at once. Small changes gather to generate greater success, and a restrained approach is more productive than attempting to produce several large changes at one time. If there appears to be a reversal (with the situation worsening), this usually means you applied the magick too late, and events were in motion that could not be fully arrested. Magick may have lessened the negative outcomes for you even though it appears to be the other way around. Using magick to recover or change the situation to your advantage is the best course of action.
Is magick more effective when you do it in the correct hour and moon phase or is this just superstition?
These observations and correspondences are not superstition, and many people find they help, but unless one of our books suggests a specific time to work you can assume the magick can be performed at any time. Aspects of timing may be more prevalent in books yet to be published.
How can we use the magick for someone else or on their behalf? How would you reword the ritual?
The authors give guidance in the books, where it is possible. In Angelic Sigils, for example, Ben Woodcroft shows how you can rephrase to assist another person, ensuring there is sincerity. In Angelic Protection, there are details on how to protect others. With the money rituals, Henry suggests that when you make your own money you have the option to share it, or you can introduce somebody to magick if you believe they will be receptive. In the Lucifer book, it is assumed that, unless stated otherwise, you can direct your request to affect other people, but you should become familiar with the magick before trying to do so.
How can I publish a book with you?
I have currently signed sufficient authors to keep me busy, so I am not taking new submissions at present. When that changes, I will let you know.
Can I help translate your books?
Not at the present time, thank you.
Are spirits real or creations of the mind?
The authors and I believe that the spirits are real but also acknowledge that many people work with magick by pretending the spirits are real, and this can be a practical approach.
Can you combine rituals, and if so, how?
The majority of occult workers would agree that a limited amount of magick performed with strong focus is the way to work. If, however, you choose to use several rituals at once, to solve one problem, you can run them in series or parallel. There is no need to ask the angels to work together as they will always sense and understand your entire magickal approach.
Something strange happened when I performed the magick. Is it dangerous?
It’s not dangerous, but it is widely recognised that some people experience stronger reactions to magick than others. These seemingly supernatural events are often a projection or reflection of your experience of magick or your beliefs regarding magick. If the magick doesn’t feel pleasant, consider slowing down or stopping for a while, or accept that what you are experiencing is a harmless side-effect and nothing to fear.
If I work with angels and demons, do I need to leave several hours between rituals?
Most people prefer to leave at least an hour between working with different styles of ritual, but others combine them. Henry Archer’s book works with angels and demons at the same time.
If I work with demons, will the angels still hear me?
These are all spirits and entities of power, not of light or dark, and many angels can perform deeds that are very far from what people expect of angels, while demons are equally skilled in acts of peace and understanding. Some minor occult groups are relentlessly promoting a dogma that states demons hate angels. Many expert occultists know this is basic thinking and that cooperative harmony can be very powerful. It is important to say the conflict only exists for those who want to choose a side when no such choice needs to be made. It is wise, however, not to banish too close to a demonic working as Theodore Rose states in his book. Generally, though, Magick is Magick and spirits are spirits, and the less attention given to their mythical origins the easier it is to work with them all.
If I use magick from another system, do I need to tell all the spirits what I’m doing?
This is your choice because you are inventing a new system when you put various methods together in this way.
How can I get better at evocation using another author’s work?
I won’t comment on the work of another author, but I can say that even though Lucifer and The Hidden Demons doesn’t contain an evocation method, there have been many, many reports of people having an evocation-like experience, where the demon’s presence, power and communication become real. For evocation generally, I think one of the problems we have now is that with many popular books showing quick and easy methods for getting magick to work we assume everything can work as easily. I am proud to publish books of magick that show the ease of practical magick but also acknowledge this has contributed to a belief that all magickal procedures can be completed with ease. Evocation can take years to achieve, or it can occur when you aren’t expecting anything to happen.
Is it ever wise to join a magick group, online or in the real world?
When occult groups are formed in society with people meeting in darkened rooms to discuss and perform magick, there are sometimes benefits (knowledge, experience, group activities) and always restrictions as the group develops a ‘group thought’ or ideology. Finding a balance is difficult, and few orders survive for long. With online forums, there may be a benefit to asking non-experts for their thoughts and experiences, but it’s a good way to waste time. Often, those answering are the least knowledgeable, and they are present because they like to post a lot. Other groups spend most of their time being defensive, and the social appeal is therefore lacking. Magick is a tool. I can’t imagine joining an online forum to discuss screwdrivers, so I don’t see why it’s any different for magick. Some groups have value but should be explored briefly rather than consulted daily. The time could be spent working on your magick.

One point I am having a hard time understanding in Lucifer and the Hidden Demons — the author mentions on several occasions that demons’ names can be “said” silently. I cannot tell whether everything — including the request, stating thanks, etc. — also may be handled in that same manner or whether it must be articulated orally. I am in a situation where it is difficult to get the requisite privacy to say any of this out loud, at least more loudly than doing it very quietly.

In the chapter Summoning Demons the author says, “Speaking to the demon can occur within your mind, or you may speak out loud.”

Hi! You’ve commented on your views of spirits on Facebook but now that you have published this (phenomenal) book by Mr. Rose, I’m hoping you might be able to ask the authors if they has any thoughts on the use of this magick with angelic magick, from Mr. Woodcrofts book, or from other systems. I ask because Mr. Rose says that if you are summoning multiple demons for a purpose you should inform them who else you are working with; also, above, you mention the angels knowing of the work of other angels. But, what of work between the “different” spirits? If for example you are familiar with Gallery of Magick, they say that working with any spirit from *within* their system is fine. Mr. Rose does make it appear that within the legions there is a cooperative approach which sounds like it could be jeopardized with outside work from other spirits. So please note this isn’t one of those questions with choosing a side or whatever- But rather, if I task a demon through this method, then want to do a road opener from the Gallery’s “words of power” (archangel calls) to move the situation forward, would this be disruptive? Or if I found a demon in this book which I would like to try to use in a situation I had previously been using angels to affect, would that be detrimental? I hope this makes sense as I have been practicing magick for a long time with angels and it’s hard to see where there wouldn’t potentially be overlap. Another example would be summoning Paymon for insight, then also evoking Raziel, for the same purpose, to gain another perspective, or then use an angelic sigil for wisdom or guidance – is that problematic? (You can see where this might get tricky!) Thank you so much Chris!

I’m in the process of assembling a new FAQ, which may be several FAQs, and it’s taking some time. This subject should be covered, but the short answer is that opinions will differ. Some authors will say that mixing magick is a mistake and others will say you can perform quite a lot of diverse methods if they are all moving in the same direction. I plan to get this clarified, or at least expressed/discussed, by the authors in due course. Until that time you may wish to see what happens if you combine because my personal answer is that it appears to be slightly different for everybody.

Thank you very much. Yes if you could please. There are matters that I would like to combine certain angelic rituals with and I am eager to address them with the addition of the new book, but certainly want to be cautious not to make the matters worse and so experimenting seems risky. I’d been targeting using angelic magick to begin with and this makes it hard to decide the next move now with access to new powers and methods. Thanks so much.

I am so very sad to hear that Mr. Woodcroft has retired from writing, his books are my favorites of all the occult authors and have improved my life greatly. I am grateful to Mr. Woodcroft for sharing his knowledge and will miss his writings. I wish him all the best.

I am so pleased to hear that you like Ben Woodcroft’s work but he hasn’t retired from writing. He retired from publishing and I took over. His next book is not due any time soon, but he is writing a new book. I may update the FAQ to clarify this point.

Im reading the Freezing a Curse section in Angelic Protection Magick and I’m noticing it doesn’t say when or how to look at the sigil provided. Can you please provide the instructions for how the sigil is used? Hopefully this can be corrected in future versions of the book.

It says, “You will need to keep this sigil within sight during the ritual.” That is all that’s required – the presence of the sigil and nothing more complex. We’ve been sent many messages about how well this works so I think it’s fine as it is.
